What are your feelings about the developer's plan to raze 6 acres in the heart of the Hoppers Preserve, deforest the area, mine out 149,000 cubic yards of sand and gravel, flatten a scenic glacial hill or kame, and then build from 2 to 7 houses on what is left of the site?
PUBLIC HEARING ON THIS COMING MONDAY the 12th at 6 pm at CITY HALL , BRISTOL!!!
Zoning Commission Public Hearing on an Earth Removal Permit and Site Plan for 45 and 51 Grassy Road, Bristol
Here's how you can participate:
Best Way - Come in person and speak your views
Second Best Way - Attend on Zoom, you can also speak (link has not been published yet to my knowledge - can anyone help us find this?)
Third Best Way - submit written testimony to our town planner Robert Flanagan [email protected] and copy us at [email protected] so we can read your testimony aloud at the meeting,
Some talking points:
This is primarily a mining operation not a housing development
Development here will completely wreck the ecology of the preserve
Wild plants and animals that need continuous forest to survive will die off
Dump trucks will run over animals such as the Box Turtle, a species of concern that live in the Hoppers
7,000 dump trucks will be coming through the quiet neighborhood next to Birge Pond during the course of the project
Noise pollution, light pollution, the tendency for invasive species to spread out from the center of the preserve.
The loss of a sense of wilderness and solitude that can now miraculously be found right in the middle of Bristol
Potential damage to existing roads which are already worn out and infrastructure such as culverts
The scenic and historic rounded glacial hills known as kames which have been undisturbed for 14,000 years will be flattened and the group of kames will lose one of its prominent members.
We are losing so much nature in Bristol already - this is just the absolute wrong place to site more homes - in the dead center of a rare and precious nature preserve - location, location, location!
TIME IS SHORT!! LET'S GET MOVING. SPREAD THE WORD TO YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND NEIGHBORS!!!
