Psychic Liberation (PL) ist ein 2013 gegründetes Label, das ursprünglich von Miguel Alvariño unter dem Titel Primitive Languages als Kassetten- und Plattenladenprojekt in New York City geführt wurde. Seit 2019 wird es von Nick Klein solo unter dem Namen Psychic Liberation aus der EU heraus betrieben. Die gleichnamige Konzertreihe in der Kuppelhalle findet mit wechselnden Gästen statt.
Lisa Ullén
Lisa Ullén ist eine der einflussreichsten Pianistinnen Schwedens in der Free-Jazz- und Improvisationsszene sowie in der zeitgenössischen Musik.
Ich mache Musik, die eigentlich keinem bekannten Genre zuzuordnen ist, sondern sich zwischen, durch und außerhalb verschiedener Idiome bewegt – Jazz, Neue Musik und mehr – bis sich dennoch ein eigenständiges Genre herausbildet. Diese Musik entspringt der Erfahrung, nirgendwo wirklich dazuzugehören, zwischen Identitäten und Traditionen zu stehen; Musik, die melodische und rhythmische Fragmente aufgreift, sich aber weigert, sich in bereits existierenden Ausdrucksformen niederzulassen. – Lisa Ullén
Ullén wurde in Seoul geboren und wuchs im Norden Schwedens auf. Im Jahr 2018 wurde sie vom Schwedischen Rundfunk mit dem renommierten Preis „Jazzkomponistin des Jahres“ ausgezeichnet. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und Stockholm.
Jiyoung Wi
Jiyoung Wi wird eine Performance präsentieren, die Improvisation als eine Form von „negativer Virtuosität“ begreift. Dabei stehen die Dynamiken zwischen Kontrolle (und ihrem Scheitern), Zufall und der fortwährenden Neudefinition physischer Grenzen im Mittelpunkt. Jiyoung Wi (sie/ihr) ist Musikerin, Improvisationskünstlerin und Autorin von fiktionalen Texten, die zwischen Rotterdam und Seoul pendelt.
Ihre polarisierte Praxis erforscht narrative Möglichkeiten in nicht-bildbasierten Medien. Sie hat eine Reihe von „Sound Fiction“-Arbeiten entwickelt, die sich mit der vorsichtigen Wechselwirkung zwischen Klang und Text befassen. Als selbstkritisierende Improvisatorin konfrontiert sie durch ihre negative Virtuosität und risikoreiche Gesten die Schwellen klanglicher Unmittelbarkeit.

Since 2019, Nick Klein has operated it solo from the EU under the title Psychic Liberation. The concert series of the same name takes place in the Kuppelhalle with changing guests.
Lisa Ullén
Lisa Ullén is one of Sweden’s most influential pianists in the free jazz and improvisational scene, as well as in contemporary music.
I make music that does not really belong to any known genre, but shifts between, through and outside various idioms — jazz, new music, and more — until a distinct genre nevertheless emerges. This is music that stems from an experience of not really belonging to anything, of being in between identities and traditions; music that makes use of melodic and rhythmical fragments but refuses to settle within expressions that already exist – Lisa Ullén
Born in Seoul, Ullén grew up in the northern part of Sweden. In 2018, the Swedish Radio awarded Ullén the prestigious Jazz Composer of the Year. She shares time between Berlin and Stockholm.

Jiyoung Wi
Jiyoung Wi will present a performance that frames improvisation as a form of ‘negative virtuosity’, emphasizing the dynamics between control (and its failure), chance, and the continual redefinition of physical limits. Jiyoung Wi (she/her) is a musician/improviser and fiction writer floating between Rotterdam and Seoul.
Her polarized practice explores narrative possibilities in non-image-based mediums. She has developed a series of ‘sound fiction’ works focusing on the tentative reciprocity between sound and text. As a self-punitive improviser, through her negative virtuosity and risk-taking gestures, she confronts the thresholds of sonic immediacy.
