The Anchorage Restaurant, located at 182 Canal Street in Eddyville, NY on the Roundout Creek, has long been known as a haunted and mysterious location.
Built in the 1800's on the Delaware and Hudson Canal, the brick building has survived a town wide fire, and multiple floods. An apparition of a “Man in a Top Hat” has been seen many times in the bar area by patrons and staff alike. There have been reported occurrences of disembodied voices, and seeing shadows and spirits, by the Martin Family, who have lived in the building and owned and operated the Anchorage since the 1950’s, as well as being seen by Patrons and Staff of the restaurant. Many staff refuse to go into the basement as it is also known to be the location of many haunted occurrences.
The D& H Canal was the product of the Wurts brothers, who chose the Roundout as the eastern point of the canal, purchased land on the Strand and brought in Scottish and Irish workers, who hand dug what would become the canal. The Canal was used for commerce to transport items such as coal, grain etc between Pennsylvania and the Hudson Valley in order to make it easier to ship coal and products to the area and NYC. The canal was abandoned in the 1950’s and is now the home to yacht clubs, and boats.
The Anchorage Restaurant situated in the picturesque Hudson Valley, on the Roundout Creek, along the D & H Canal is located not far from Kingston NY. It is known by locals for its delicious food, warm atmosphere and for the occasional spooky or haunting occurrence.
