About this Event
Old, neglected apple trees are a staple across the Maine landscape. Did you know that you can restore them to their former glory and have local fresh apples in your backyard?
Join us for this hands-on workshop to learn how to prune your favorite fruit trees, led by apple tree enthusiast Joe Dembeck. We will cover tools and methods used to prune fruit trees to increase their viability and production. After a brief overview, participants will get to test their skills pruning apple trees.
Get to see how an apple tree is pruned each year to restore them ! It takes longer than one afternoon to prune an apple tree back to full production. We hosted this workshop last year and we will visit the same tree this year. Participants will get to see how the tree was pruned last year, how the tree reacted, and what to do next. You'll receive two years of education in just two hours!
Joe has been pruning apple trees since his youth and over the last 40 years continues to expand his skills and knowledge on fruit tree pruning and management. He has been pruning apple trees for non-commercial clients throughout Central Maine for almost ten years.
This is an outdoor event. Please dress appropriately.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own pruning equipment and work gloves.
Pole saws, hand saws, and loppers will be available for participants to try. Participation is strongly encouraged!
