About this Event

Join Family Equality and the American LGBTQ+ Museum at the Parade Pre-Party in Bas Relief Park to have your family portrait taken by photographer Roger Erickson! Bring your best pride gear and help us document the beauty and joy of LGBTQ+ families for generations to come!

To reserve a time slot for your family portrait, please register here. Time slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Photos will be delivered digitally to each registrant post-event.

PLEASE NOTE

• The photograph “booth” is outside, and is not in a private area. While posing, other participants might be watching and/or engaging with you.

• Any participant photographed under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to complete a media release.
• If participants miss their time slot, we will try our best to accommodate them at the end of the photography block (around 3PM), but cannot guarantee it, so please be on time for your timed photo slot.
• Photo participants are encouraged to bring props that are representative of themselves/their family and can choose to pose as an individual, or with up to 10 other people. There will be up to 1 minute to position/pose and 1 minute of photos taken per time slot.

ABOUT ROGER ERICKSON

Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Oakland, California, Roger Erickson's work is distinguished by a narrative depth and visual clarity that continues to shape the landscape of modern portrait photography.

In 2003, Roger made history as the first African American photographer to shoot two covers of Vogue Magazine , the March cover of Vogue en Español with Paulina Rubio, and the August cover of Vogue México featuring Lily Aldridge. Roger’s talent for capturing compelling narratives earned him the opportunity to photograph three Out100 Portfolio Issues for Out Magazine. His images have appeared in numerous publications including GQ (US), Harper’s Bazaar (UK), Vogue (México y Latinoamérica), ELLE (France), Entertainment Weekly, Out Magazine, Emmy Magazine, and Flaunt.

In 2015, his solo exhibition OUTspoken: Portraits of LGBTQ Luminaries was exhibited in San Francisco City Hall, celebrating visibility, courage, and pride. Two years later, he directed I Am…, a short film documentary exploring the meaning of being “out,” told through the voices of artists, activists, and public figures. His 2024 awarded monograph, Roger Erickson: Floss, published by Goff Books / ORO Editions, continues his creative exploration into music and Black culture through conceptual portraiture.

Erickson serves on the Storytelling Advisory Council at The American LGBTQ+ Museum in New York City. His work advances the museum’s mission to create inclusive and representative exhibitions.

Provincetown Family Week is the largest annual gathering of LGBTQ+ families in the world. From sunrise to sunset, Family Week offers opportunities for LGBTQ+ parents, children, extended families, and friends from across the globe to connect, build community, and get empowered. Each day will be filled with programming options for the whole family as well as individual age groups.

• If you or someone in your family would like to request ASL interpretation or have any of access needs, indicate that in the registration form or email Family Equality’s Family Week Team.
• In Ptown, there are few to no elevators in many buildings that are multiple stories and there are usually steps to enter buildings. Further, most venues have little-to-no parking and the sidewalks can be narrow, crowded, or uneven. We have chairs at all or our events for both youth and parents to be able to sit down and Family Equality staff are always willing to work with participants in any way to make more spaces accessible for our participants.
• Family Equality has gathered measurements, images, and pictures from in-person trips to gather access information for anyone who may want to know more about the spaces and if their access requests can be met at Family Week or specific events. Prior to July 18th, you can email Family Equality with any questions or concerns about accessibility. From July 19th and after, we recommend reaching out directly to the venue you have questions about.
• The Town has designated its public restrooms as All Gender Restrooms to ensure that everyone — regardless of gender identity — has safe and equal access to public restrooms. This means that everyone has the right to use the restroom that best aligns with their gender identity. View Provincetown’s Public Restrooms site for more information.
• During Family Week if you have questions, concerns, or need assistance regarding access, contact Family Equality staff.
