Providing Executive Protection for Faith-Based Leaders Certificate Course

Course Description

This one-day course, developed by Michael Mann Security Services in conjunction with Hoosier State Training (HST), provides participants with the fundamentals of providing close protection for pastors, evangelists, speakers, and Christian artists who may be at risk and require enhanced security measures. This program is designed for seasoned protectors, church security volunteers, off-duty law enforcement officers who provide security for houses of worship and special events, and the novice protector who is new to the executive protection field.

This course includes a combination of lecture, case studies, tabletop- exercises, assessment activities, and simulations.

Course topics include:

1. Security design strategies for houses of worship, auditoriums, and event venues.

2. Concepts in executive protection: basic principles for protecting faith-based leaders

3. Equipment considerations for protectors

4. Conducting threat assessments

5. Operational planning

6. Behavior threat detection: detecting potential threats in crowds

7. Use of force concepts

8. Handgun selection and use: covert carry principles

9. Conducting snap-shot advances

10. Protective formations and immediate action procedures

Instructor

Michael Mann, CPP®, PSP®, CDEP has 30+ years’ experience in physical security, law enforcement, executive protection, and corporate security. Michael’s experience in close protection began during his service with the United States Marine Corps Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST), a dedicated security and antiterrorism unit of the Marine Corps. Michael also served on the mayor’s security detail while employed as a police officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department, and he served as an executive protection manager for a large risk management firm. Michael has been both a regional security manager and global physical security director, and he is certified in dignitary and executive protection.

Michael has Master of Science (MS) Degree in Security Management; a Certificate in Terrorism Studies from the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, University of St. Andrews and he studied terrorism at Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel. Michael is also a 35- year student, practitioner and teacher of modern pistolcraft and self- defense, and he serves as an adjunct staff member for a large university assigned to teach courses in criminal justice, homeland security, and counterterrorism.

Michael is the owner and lead consultant for Michael Mann Security Services, an independent security management firm that specializes in providing churches, private schools, and ministries with comprehensive protection strategies. Michael is also on staff at Fellowship Bible Church as the manager of security, leading physical protection operations for campuses located in Brentwood, TN and Franklin, TN
