Protectors of Animals is having its 13th Annual Kitten Shower on Friday, May 22nd from 4 PM to 8 PM at Hops on the Hill Brewery in South Glastonbury. There will be food, beer, cat-themed activities, raffle prizes and most importantly- ambassador kittens to greet everyone! This is a fundraising event where donations will be collected to help POA take care of the yearly influx of kittens born outside as the weather gets warmer. These kittens are the most vulnerable members of the POA family and are born right here in our community to stray or abandoned moms.This year we are looking to raise funds for a special purpose. Every year POA is contacted dozens of times with an urgent request for help with newborn kittens. Kittens who are three weeks and younger are known as neonates. Neonates do not have the ability to regulate their body temperature and are totally dependent on their mother for protection, warmth and nutrition. A neonate found without its mom is a high risk. We call these kittens "bottle babies" and while they are adorable, caring for them is very difficult and sometimes heartbreaking work. We have some very special foster families who step in to take care of these babies.
In past years, support from our community has helped us provide critical equipment like incubators to give these fragile kittens a fighting chance. This year, POA is hoping to raise enough funds to purchase 1 incubator, 2 humidifiers, and 4 nebulizers—essential tools that help stabilize body temperature, support respiratory health, and improve survival rates for our most vulnerable kittens. In addition to these lifesaving items, donations will also go toward the everyday supplies kittens need to grow and thrive. Come learn about volunteering, bid on a raffle or donate, meet some happy and healthy kittens who will soon be ready for adoption, and kick off Memorial Day weekend with lots of fun!
