If you keep a pistol for home defense, you need more than a bedside gun, you need a plan and the skills to back it up.Protector Essentials: Pistol Home Defense is a 4-hour indoor-range + coaching session built around the reality of home-defense problems: positive identification, safe movement/handling, fast decision-making, and accurate hits under time pressure. This class is designed to be accessible for new to intermediate shooters while still challenging experienced carriers who want to tighten fundamentals and pressure-test their process.
What you’ll work on (high-level):
- Home-defense setup & staging: practical ways to keep a pistol accessible while prioritizing safety (household considerations, light, and muzzle discipline).
- Fast, accountable shooting: getting acceptable hits quickly from ready positions.
- Problem-solving: keeping your pistol running when the unexpected happens.
- One-handed & support-hand skills: because your other hand may be busy (doors, family, phone, light).
- Low-light fundamentals: handheld-light use and decision-making (we’ll keep it realistic for indoor-range constraints).
- After-action habits: scan, assess, and communicate, what comes next after the last shot.

Bring:
- 150 rounds of reliable practice ammunition (200 recommended for repetitions and alternates — more is always better)
- Open mind and readiness to train
- Notepad and pen
- Quality carry pistol (semi-automatic recommended)
- Minimum of 2 quality magazines
- Administrative flashlight (handheld)
- Eye and ear protection
- Food/snacks
- Water and/or electrolyte drinks
Safety and expectations:
- This is a coaching-forward class with clear standards: safe gun handling, muzzle discipline, and shot accountability are non-negotiable. You’ll be expected to follow all facility rules and instructor direction at all times.
