On Tuesday, October 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., join the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana for an evening with native plant educator Dr. Charles Allen at the SEED Center in Lake Charles. Allen, a botanist, author and retired professor from University of Louisiana Monroe, will lead an exploration of how your own backyard can become part of the solution to protecting southwest Louisiana’s rare Cajun prairies.
Cajun prairies are among the region’s most unique and threatened landscapes—but you can help turn the tide. Even the smallest garden can transform into a haven for pollinators and migratory birds, while reducing the need for mowing, watering and chemicals. Charles Allen will share how planting native prairie species can make your yard both beautiful and ecologically meaningful.
In this engaging lecture, CRCL Communications Manager Morgan Randall will also highlight how local coastal restoration projects are working to protect and rebuild these rare prairies. Attendees will leave with inspiration and practical tips to bring a piece of the prairie home, supporting wildlife, the environment and the future of southwest Louisiana’s natural heritage.
This free public lecture is hosted by the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana with support from the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance. Complimentary drinks and light bites will be available.
