Protect Your Home from Wildfires: A Community Workshop with Todd Lando

That’s why Sunrise Center is inviting you to an important educational workshop in partnership with Fire Safe Marin on Sunday, February 11, 2025, from 6:00–7:30 PM.

Wildfires are no longer just a seasonal threat—they are a growing reality in California. Fire Safe Marin is a community-driven organization dedicated to wildfire prevention, preparedness, and resilience in Marin County. Through education, partnerships, and proactive programs, they empower residents and neighborhoods to create fire-adapted communities that can withstand the increasing threat of wildfires.

This event is designed to give attendees practical tools and strategies to protect their homes, loved ones, and neighbors. Together, we can create a safer, more resilient future.

The threat of wildfires is real and immediate. I recently witnessed the devastating loss my niece and nephew endured when they lost their home in the Southern California wildfires. They thought they had time, but wildfires move quickly.

This workshop is your opportunity to learn how to prepare your home, protect your family, and help your community.

• How to create defensible space and reduce fire hazards on your property.
• The latest home-hardening techniques, including ember-resistant vents and fireproof roofing, to safeguard against embers and flames.
• Steps to develop an evacuation plan and prepare for emergencies.
• How protecting your home also protects your neighbors, creating a stronger, safer community.

This workshop isn’t just about individual preparedness—it’s about coming together as a community to ensure all of our neighborhoods are connected, prepared, and resilient.

We’re honored to have Todd Lando, Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, Battalion Chief for the Central Marin Fire Department, and President of Fire Safe Marin, leading this workshop. Todd is a recognized leader in wildfire preparedness and serves on the California Governor’s Wildfire Mitigation Advisory Committee, helping shape statewide wildfire policies.
