Through the lens of "Blackwaters," discover the critical work that Alaska Wilderness League (AWL) is doing to as an outreach beyond the conservation world to preserve one of the last great wild places on Earth. The film showcases the ongoing efforts and challenges faced by the Gwich'in people and the importance of protecting their ancestral lands.
š¬ About the Film: "Blackwaters" has garnered international acclaim for its compelling storytelling and breathtaking cinematography. It highlights the environmental and cultural significance of the Arctic Refuge and the urgent need for conservation.
Film Synopsis: "Blackwaters" encompasses the power of five Black men whose paths have been challenged with loss, defeat, fear, and pain by lifeās ups and downs and social injustice challenges Black men and Black boys face every day. They have fallen into an āendangered species,ā only surviving day to day. Through surviving lifeās trials, each man has found grace and success in the outdoors, healed and mended by natureās medicine to the soul, embracing the art of fly fishing and building brotherhood. "Blackwaters" is the story of a journey in the Arctic Refuge, Gates of the Arctic National Park, and Gwich'in community. The story encompasses adventure, a vision quest, and a fly fishing expedition that surpasses the color of the participantsā own skin, connecting to the fundamentals of nature, the poetry of life, and prosperous joy.
