About this Event
Join Indiana Audubon for a great summer morning of birding among the prairies and oaks at Prophetstown State Park. By late summer, the prairies are in full bloom, and many species of grassland songbirds are ramping up their breeding, or starting their second broods.
This trip will feature the great diversity of grassland birds that have been attracted to the DNR's active fire management program that has turned this park into a haven for birds in just 20 years of existance. The grasslands are home to nesting Grasshopper Sparrows, Blue Grosbeaks, Dickcissels, Bobwhite and Bell’s Vireos.
This field trip is being led by IAS guide Angie Archer, and will meet registered participants at 7:30am ET at the Prairie View Picnic Area parking lot. Total time is approximately 3-4 hours of birding around the property and will conclude before lunch. Registration is $5 for Indiana Audubion members, and $10 for non-members.

Birding Pace: Fun and Relaxed.
Physical Requirements: Light-Medium. Much of the prairie landscape is flat or gently rolling, but the sun protection is a must. 1-2 miles total hiking.
Birding Skill Level: Beginner-Mid-Level. Extended looks at both common and uncommon species will be available to study identification and for photography.
