About this Event
Learn How to Grow Ferns from Spores!
Ferns don’t grow from seeds—they propagate through spores. These spores grow into a small organism called a gametophyte, which then produces the eggs and sperm that develop into new ferns. In nature, most spores don’t survive, but in this class, you’ll learn how to improve their chances and grow healthy fern plants!
You’ll learn how to:
- Collect fern spores
- Create a sterile environment for them to grow
- Guide the spores through their life stages—from gametophyte to baby fern
- Transplant baby ferns into a growing medium
By the end of the class, you’ll take home:
- Transplanted baby ferns
- A box of media with spores ready to grow
- Knowledge of how to collect and propagate fern spores at home
What you’ll need at home to continue growing:
- Microwave
- Plastic containers
- Perlite and peat moss
Join us to discover the fascinating process of fern propagation!
