PROOF OF ORIGIN: Terroir & Tradition in Mexican Distilling
About this Event
Terroir & Tradition in Mexican Distilling
We talk a lot about where our wines come from. This time, we’re bringing that same curiosity to Mexican spirits.
Join us and our friends Ben Fuller of Skurnik Wine & Spirits for a guided tasting through tequila, mezcal, raicilla, sotol and regional destilados. Seven distinctive spirits and a closer look at what makes them worth knowing: what grows, who makes them and the traditions that connect the two.
We’ll explore how growing conditions, cooking, fermentation and distillation shape each spirit, and where the character of the plant meets the choices of the maker. This isn’t just a tour of different categories. It’s a chance to taste them together, ask questions and understand what connects these bottles without overlooking what makes each one distinct.
The lineup takes us from Don Vicente’s blanco and reposado tequilas to Espadín and Jabalí mezcal, Estancia’s raicilla and Macurichos’ Destilado con Cacao. We’ll also step beyond agave with Flor del Desierto’s sotol, made from the Dasylirion plant. A different raw ingredient, and an important part of the broader conversation about Mexican distilling.
New to the category? Perfect. Already have a favorite mezcal? There’s plenty more to explore. Expect producer stories, side-by-side comparisons and plenty of room for questions.
