Our shop's PROMM events are held during the summer, and normally on the evening of the fourth Wednesday of the month.
While ballooning was of great interest to European countries, it took considerably longer for the United States to enter the field. When it did begin to take off, there were a few men who were the main driving force for taking balloons to unimaginable heights in the 1800s. And as the Civil War broke out, the Union Army formed its very own Ballooning Corps. Who were these civilian soldiers, and how did President Lincoln help in establishing their role in the military? And you won’t want to miss a fundamental connection to Lancaster, PA!
