About this Event
1917: President Wilson sidestepped demands for a federal suffrage amendment. Frustrated, suffragists, including Alice Paul, Lucy Burns, and Mabel Vernon, launched a new strategy.
January 10, 1917: Silent Sentinels, organized by Alice Paul, began their peaceful protest at the White House gates, standing silently with banners and flags six days a week.
The Sentinels' persistence was crucial in the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920. Following this, Alice Paul drafted the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
Our Mission
To push our current administration to adopt the resolution declaring the ERA the 28th Amendment, a new wave of Sentinels will stand at the White House, raising awareness and demanding the ERA's publication.
The Final Push
The 28th Amendment will enshrine gender equality in the U.S. Constitution, providing a solid legal foundation for all and protecting existing gender equity laws. For over a century, women and allies have fought for equality. Now, we all must come together and push for the official recognition of the rights we've already won! Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied based on sex!
From Sept 20 - 30, We will step into the shoes of the past Sentinels, march to the gates of the White House, and demand The ERA be put in its rightful place. In The US Constitution.
