Happy New Year! The 5th annual Raising of the Gourds is coming soon! The earliest Purple Martin (PUMA) migrants usually arrive in South Florida around mid-January but the last few years they have started showing up in December!
Our adults are becoming better parents each year, and this season we hope we get some more mated pairs.
Enjoy an overview on SEVAS Project Purple Martin and then learn more by prepping the 12 gourds with nesting material. Everything will be provided.
Then we will walk over to the site, complete the Purple Martin pole and raise the gourds!
Volunteer observers are needed to help keep a lookout for arrivals. Then again once the hatchlings start fledging we need volunteer observers to make sure we find any early jumpers before a predator does.
