Project Owlnet Saw-whet Owl Painting Workshop
About this Event
Join Indiana Audubon, the Chesterton Art Center, and local artist and birder Jennifer Aitchison for a special Project Owlnet fundraising workshop.
During this two-hour class, participants will create an acrylic painting of a Northern Saw-whet Owl. Each finished piece will be painted on gallery-wrapped canvas and will be ready to frame or hang on the wall.
No previous painting experience is required. Jennifer welcomes participants of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced artists, and will guide the group through the process step by step.
Northern Saw-whet Owls are among Indiana's most elusive fall migrants. Through Project Owlnet, Indiana Audubon researchers and volunteers study these small nocturnal raptors at long-running banding stations in the Indiana Dunes and at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary. The project helps document saw-whet owl migration, movement, and population trends while giving the public a closer look at the science behind conservation.
A portion of the proceeds from this workshop will support Project Owlnet and Indiana Audubon's ongoing owl research and community engagement.
To learn more about this work and experience our banding research firsthand, in October or November.
Come make something beautiful, learn more about one of Indiana's most fascinating birds, and help keep the saw-whet research flying.
