Project 562: Changing the Way We See Native America
Join us for a talk by Matika Wilbur, a critically acclaimed social documentarian and photographer from the Swinomish and Tulalip peoples of coastal Washington. She'll share details of Project 562, her crowd-funded initiative to visit, engage, and photograph people from over 562 sovereign Tribal Nations in North America.
The only effort since the 1930s to photograph people from all Native American Tribal Nations, and the only such endeavor by a Native artist, Project 562 is a photographic and narrative celebration of contemporary Native American life and cultures, alongside an in-depth examination of issues that Native people face.
The project is Matika's fourth major creative venture elevating Native American identity and culture. A National Geographic Explorer, she also co-hosts the All My Relations podcast with Dr. Adrienne Keene, which explores the connections between land, non-human relatives, and one another.
