Prohibition lasted from 1920 to 1933 and was a period of time when it was illegal to manufacture, transport or sell liquor in the U.S. This included Iowa -- So, why then, did Iowa farmers begin using their field corn to produce liquor?? The author was able to speak with the children of moonshiners and bootleggers, and shares their memories. She will have specific instances of Prohibition in the West Des Moines area.
