About this Event

About this event

How can we make the right to food real in Scotland – and in Dundee?

This is an interactive workshop focuses on rights, dignity and cash-first approaches. The aim is to bring together practitioners working across food, advice, community organisations, local authorities and health services to explore how we can make the right to food a reality in Scotland and in our communities

The workshop will include;

9.30am – 12pm (including a small break)

  • Building a shared understanding of the right to food in Scotland
  • Increasing awareness of rights-based and dignified approaches, including cash-first
  • Identifying practical actions and opportunities to advance the right to food movement

12pm – 12.45pm

Lunch – free lunch provided

12.45pm – 3pm (including a small break)

  • Exploring how the morning discussions inform local practice
  • Showcasing and sharing local practice updates and planning – including the new Public Diner and updated ward mapping
  • Reflecting on next steps and key priorities/needs going forward

Given the Scottish Government’s intention to reintroduce a Human Rights Bill, which would incorporate the right to food into Scots law, and the direction set by the Cash-First: Towards Ending the Need for Food Banks plan, this feels like an important moment to bring people together locally
