In addition to the programs and activities listed below, the Paynetown Activity Center is open Saturday-Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Drop by to make a different craft each day, view our live snakes, check out the wall exhibits and taxidermy collection, the reference library, spend time at the puzzle table, or play in the kids' corner - or ask a question of the park naturalist.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 28
Hidden Insects from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Paynetown SRA, Campground Playground
DROP BY to learn how to identify some of the insects that thrive in a grassy habitat, maybe even in your own yard, and make a paper craft!
SATURDAY, AUGUST 29
Talking Turtles from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Paynetown SRA, Campground Playground
DROP BY to take a closer look at turtle shells and the “scutes” that cover and color them – and design your own turtle by weaving yarn to create the colorful shell.
Feed the Birds from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Paynetown SRA, Campground Playground
DROP BY to learn about the best seeds to attract birds to your yard and make your own simple bird feeder.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 30
Nature’s Recyclers from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Paynetown SRA, Campground Playground
DROP BY to explore how nutrients move through the ecosystem, from producers to consumers to the (often underappreciated!) decomposers! Learn why the decomposers, known as “nature’s recyclers,” are so important to this cycle – and make a craft to help you remember their role.
