The National Alliance on Mental Illness Georgia will present a one-hour program, ''Ending the Silence for Families,'' focusing on teen mental health in the community room. It is sponsored by Friends of the Library. It is intended for adults with middle or high school aged youth and includes warning signs, facts and statistics, how to talk with the child and how to work with school staff. The program aims to help audience members learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if they or a loved one show symptoms of a mental health condition.
It includes two leaders: one who offers an informative presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition who tells of his or her journey of recovery. Audience members can ask questions and gain understanding of an often-misunderstood topic.
NAMI Georgia is the state affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a nonprofit organization that provides education, advocacy and support for people living with mental illness.
The program is free and open to the public.
