WHAT WE DREAMED OF THEN - Then, Gideon was a vibrant young father and husband. Now, he is invisibly houseless, trying to hold onto his relationship with his estranged daughter. Told through a non-linear narrative, What We Dreamed of Then weaves between past and present, revealing the fragility of hope and the resilience needed to survive isolation.

Statistically, there are at least 235,000 homeless at any given moment in Canada, and many more of them are invisibly homeless. This is not a nomad lifestyle, and it’s not a choice: it’s a byproduct of not only poor choices, addiction and mental illness, but also a lack of rent caps, inflation, and a myriad of other impacts of our capitalist system. This could be many of us.

Inspired by films like The Florida Project, Werewolf, or Murmur, the film reveals the nuanced details and behavioral tendencies of real people through deep research, portraying a complex and emotionally authentic character facing invisible homelessness. PAPER PROMISES - For Over 200 years, the Mead paper mill was the backbone of Chillicothe, Ohio — a source of good jobs, generational pride, and a town’s identity. In August 2025, that legacy is torn as the mill’s closure leaves more than 800 workers without jobs and a community reeling.

Paper Promises is a raw, intimate portrait of a town in transition. Through the voices of mill workers, union leaders, small business owners, and local officials, the film captures the fallout of a corporate decision made far from the people it affects most.
