Join legendary acting educator Professor Vera J. Katz for an unforgettable two-night Acting Master Class where actors won’t just hear about the craft—they’ll experience it in real time.
Each night, actors will be selected from the audience to take the stage and work with scene partners using material from celebrated television shows, films, and plays. Selected actors will receive a scene, have time to prepare, and perform it live before Professor Katz and the audience.
Then the real transformation begins.
Professor Katz will break down the performances, offer direct feedback, and teach the acting techniques she has developed over more than five decades of training and mentoring performers. The actors will take those techniques back into rehearsal, return to the stage the same night, and perform the same scene again—giving the entire audience an opportunity to witness their growth and transformation in real time.

Audience members will have the opportunity to be chosen for scene work during both nights of the Master Class, with priority consideration given to Early Bird ticket holders. Come ready to watch, learn—and possibly perform.
Professor Vera J. Katz is Professor Emerita of Theatre Arts at Howard University, where she taught acting and directing for 32 years, and a former acting faculty member at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Her distinguished former students include Debbie Allen, Chadwick Boseman, Taraji P. Henson, Phylicia Rashad, and Anthony Anderson. An acclaimed director, educator, and dramaturg, Professor Katz received Howard University’s Living Legend Award in 2023 and continues to mentor the next generation of actors.
