Lauren Berkowitz lives and works in Naarm/Melbourne, on the traditional lands of the Kulin nation. Transforming natural and manufactured materials using volume, space and light, her ephemeral and site-specific installations evoke the passage of time, loss and renewal. Often inspired by the landscape, her poetic sculptures invite conversations about environmental fragility, regeneration and sustainability.
Participants will reimagine materials left over from transporting and presenting works of art at the National Gallery, as well as utilising recycled materials that could be sourced from their school or home environment. Work alongside the artist to transform and assemble these materials into an ephemeral installation.
The workshop will give participants opportunities to consider ways of thinking like an artist and reflect on how that could translate into their own context.
We encourage educators to take materials with them at the end of the workshop to continue the project in their classrooms and educational settings.
