About this Event
Research talk @ TUM Chair for Strategy and Organization: Prof. Rosemarie Ziedonis (Boston University) on Acquisition Market Thickness and R&D Investment Incentives:
Evidence from National Security Restrictions
We are very happy to welcome Prof. Rosemarie Ziedonis (Boston University) in person at the TUM Chair for Strategy and Organization at the TUM School of Management.
🔎 Talk: "Acquisition Market Thickness and R&D Investment Incentives"
🗓️ Date: Mon, 18th May 2026
⏰Time: 16:30pm – 17:30pm CET
📍Location: TUM, Building 5, 2nd floor, Room 2553 (Entrance: Luisenstr./Theresienstr.)
What to expect: Rosemarie Ziedonis will present a working paper which investigates whether U.S. national security restrictions, which reduce acquisition market “thickness” in certain sectors but not others, alter the upstream R&D investments of potential targets. The study provides new evidence that fluidity in the market to acquire technology companies is consequential for upstream R&D investment incentives and reveals a possible unintended link between national security policies and innovative activity.
Rosemarie Ziedonis is a Professor of Strategy and Innovation at BU’s Questrom School of Business. She also holds an honorary research appointment at Imperial College Business School in the Management and Entrepreneurship Department. Rosemarie has a Ph.D. in Business and Public Policy from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Prior to joining Questrom, she served on the faculty at the University of Oregon, the Wharton School, and the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, where she co-directed the Program for Law, Economics, and Technology.
Her research examines the value and strategic use of intellectual property, and broader aspects of innovation policy and management. Findings from her studies have been published in the Journal of Financial Economics, Organization Science, Management Science, the Rand Journal of Economics, Research Policy, Science and the Strategic Management Journal. She is an Associate Editor at Management Science in the Entrepreneurship Division, and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
We are looking forward to an exciting talk. Faculty, students, and guests are welcome.
