About this Event

The Oxford Psychedelic Society and the Oxford Biohacking Society are thrilled to welcome Prof. David Nutt and Alex Adams to Oxford.

In this historical and personal journey, Professor David Nutt will revisit developments in pharmacology over the last decades which have shaped today‘s climate for research and discourse on psychedelics. In conversation with activist Alex Adams from Pschedelic Action, he will share his personal experiences as a psychopharmacologist, as an advisor to the British Home Office and as an advocate for responsible use of psychedelics.

David Nutt is the Edmond J. Safra Professor of Neuropsychopharmacology and Director of the Neuropsychopharmacology Unit in the Division of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London. He also serves as Chair of DrugScience and has previously led major scientific bodies including the European Brain Council and the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology. A Fellow of multiple UK academies and Royal Colleges, he has published over 500 original research papers and 40 books, edited the Journal of Psychopharmacology for more than two decades, and advises the British National Formulary on psychiatric drugs. Widely recognized for his influence on science and policy, he was named among the 100 most important figures in British science by The Times and ranked the world’s leading psychopharmacologist in 2024.

Alex Adams is an award-winning human rights campaigner who co-founded Psychedelic Action, an advocacy group focused on evidence-based drug policy reform, together with Prof. David Nutt and psychotherapist Dr Leyla Hussein. Psychedelic Action conducts a revaluation of current clinical paradigms and develops a roadmap to facilitate the integration of psychedelic therapy into the UK healthcare system. Their Clinical Working Group comprises around 150 world-leading experts in the fields of neuroscience, neurology, psychiatry, pharmacology, and psychology.
