Produce Your Own Podcast with Now We're TalkingAcross five workshops, ten participants will get to take part in this engaging programme to produce a professional podcast on the life and collections of acclaimed folklorist Sam Hanna Bell, working with freelance radio producer Alan Meban to learn how to write, produce, present and edit a podcast from his extensive collection contained at PRONI.
The programme will support participants in developing and presenting a short podcast series exploring the legacy and archive of Sam Hanna Bell, with particular emphasis on his writing.
Workshops will run from Thursday 18 June – Thursday 2 July, at both Nerve Centre, Belfast and Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), Belfast. Full schedule below.

Week 1 — Introduction
Session 1
Thursday 18 June, 6–8pm, PRONI
Visit PRONI and find out who Sam Hanna Bell was.
Delve into the archives to discover some of his material.
Meet the archivists.
Conduct interviews on the value of the collection and the curation process.
Week 2 — Production
Session 2
Wednesday 24 June, 6–8pm, Location TBC
Record interviews with people who knew Sam Hanna Bell while discussing what makes a good podcast before agreeing a format.
Session 3
Thursday 25 June, 6–8pm, Location TBC
Start to edit the interviews we’ve already recorded to help shape our podcast episodes, and with the help of an actor, we may record parts of a Sam Hanna Bell short story or play.
Week 3 — Post-production and Publishing
Session 4
Wednesday 1 July, 6–8pm, Nerve Centre, Belfast
We’ll discuss how the the content we have can be woven together into a coherent story and record the links to one episode.
Session 5
Thursday 2 July, 6–8pm, Nerve Centre, Belfast
We’ll delve into the editing process and finalise the remaining episodes.
About Now We're Talking:
A partnership between Nerve Centre and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), Now We’re Talking is the first ever consortium grant awarded by The National Archives through its Archives Revealed fund.
The project will catalogue and widen access to the papers of author and broadcaster, Sam Hanna Bell, and folklorist, writer and broadcaster, Michael J Murphy.
Through a programme of creative interventions, Nerve Centre will empower communities around Northern Ireland to engage with the archives and explore their connections to the present day, examining how folk culture is a major aspect of our identity.
