About the programme
Amrita Chandradas invites you to embark on an enlightening journey into the world of documentary photography and image-making in this Pro Series: Analogue Photography talk. From her captivating assignments for international publications to deeply personal long-term projects, Amrita will share her skill of storytelling through photography.
The talk will share how to interpret and organise images to create compelling narratives, the art of setting rhythm and pacing to enhance your storytelling, as well as practical knowledge of critical techniques such as lighting, capturing fleeting moments, and the importance of research in documentary work. In tandem, Amrita will delve into her process of working on real-life assignments from conception to execution.
The programme will be accompanied by a short, interactive segment and a Q&A at the end of the talk. Take a nostalgic trip into the world of film with Amrita’s Hasselblad 500 C/M. Get hands-on experience with this iconic camera and learn how to frame and shoot under challenging conditions.
About the speaker
Amrita Chandradas is a Singaporean documentary photographer with eight years of professional experience. Her work predominantly explores themes of identity, migration, and the environment, delving into the nuanced narratives within South and Southeast Asia. Her contributions to the field have garnered widespread recognition, including being named among the top 30 under 30 documentary photographers by Magnum Photos & Ideas Tap. Additionally, she was the recipient of prestigious scholarships from Obscura Photography Festival, Ostkreuz Photo Agency, and the Goethe Institute. Notable accolades include being selected as a finalist for the Asian Women Photographers showcase and the Invisible Photographer Asia Awards. Amrita’s commitment to excellence is further evidenced by her recognition from SOPA News for her digital news coverage of "The Outlaw Ocean" at The New York Times. She was recently honoured with the UK Alumni Award for "Culture and Creativity" by The British Council and The British High Commission. Her work has graced the pages of renowned publications such as National Geographic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The LA Times, DE Spiegel, Bloomberg Business, The British Journal of Photography, The Financial Times, among others.
