PrideReads: John of John
November 23, 2026 | 7:30PM | Tomorrow Bookstore
Douglas Stuart’s 2026 novel, John of John, is a work of literary fiction set on the remote Isle of Harris in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. The story follows John-Calum “Cal” Macleod, a recent art school graduate who is manipulated into returning to his insular and devoutly religious hometown of Falabay by his father, John. Forced to confront a community governed by strict doctrine and unspoken secrets, Cal must navigate his fractured relationship with his father while concealing his own identity and experiences on the mainland. In John of John, Stuart explores themes such as The Corrosive Nature of Sexual Repression, Religious Dogma as Social Control, and The Way Economic Decline Fractures Communities.
We’re bringing queer stories home to Indy. PrideReads is Indy Pride's new queer book club, brought to life in partnership with Tomorrow Bookstore of Indianapolis. Each session, we gather around stories that reflect, challenge, and celebrate queer experience. Come for the book. Stay for the conversation. Leave feeling a little more seen.
