About this Event

This year we’re reminded more than ever the need for Pride and for the voices in our community to be heard. Prepping you to join the parade and remind everyone that Pride is a Protest, @chequereddykes is inviting you to join us to paint some signs and banners at (Hove Lawns* on 30th July, starting from 6pm till around 9pm).

This is a free event and is open to anyone in the lgbtqia community, but especially to our fellow lesbians and sapphics looking for more spaces catered to them.

Chequered Dykes was born out of the need for more FLINTA (female, lesbian, intersex, nonbinary, trans, asexual) spaces where people that are 18+ can socialize and connect without the pressures of substances. In a fight for the right to be seen, what better place to start than a picnic event in a public park, right?

That being said, no alcohol will be provided at this event and we encourage you to not bring alcoholic beverages with you. We will however, be providing some snacks and some art supplies you may use to participate in the sign making. Our selection will be very limited so we do ask that, if you can, to bring some of your own art supplies and food. But if you’re just here for the vibes you’re also welcome to roll out a blanket and enjoy meeting some new likeminded people! We would love to have you there!

We wish to create a safe space and any type of racism, ableism, misogyny, and bigotry will not be tolerated and be reported immediately.

WHAT TO BRING:

• Blanket
• Cardboard boxes, and/or thick paper, and/or fabric
• Scissors (to cut boxes!)
• Any art supplies you have (we suggest: paint, paint brushes, colored paper, glue, spray paint, pens and pencils)
• Printed pictures you’d like to include on your sign, and glue to stick it on
• Water
• A hat
• Sunscreen
• Snacks you’d like to munch on and beverages to refresh you
