As Charlotte's LGBTQ+ communities gather for Black Pride and the annual Pride Festival & Parade celebrations, let’s explore the history behind those traditions and the movements that helped make them possible. Pride celebrations are often associated with joy, visibility, and community. Yet their roots lie in activism, collective action, and demands for equality and belonging.
Join us for an interactive dialogue and presentation on pivotal moments in LGBTQ+ history. We’ll explore stories from Charlotte and the broader South, like North Carolina’s first annual state-wide Pride march, “Out Today, Out to Stay,” and consider how remembrance, celebration, and community-building can serve as forms of civic engagement.
