About this Event
Join us for a variety night full of pride for LGBTQ+ in STEM day.
Your evening will start in the theatre where you will hear from Gabriel (Gab) Astorga as he explores tracing the origins of pathogens.
'We live in a highly interconnected world where the health of humans, animals and the environment are closely linked. Because of this constant interaction, pathogens and disease can spread from one compartment to another. But how do we find where they have originated from? And can we see how they have evolved? This talk focuses on how we can use genomic information and phylogenomics to investigate the spread of pathogens, and infer the origins, especially from animal hosts.'
Pride in STEM small grant scheme winners will follow Gabriel and showcase their work in lightning rounds. We'll then end the theatre session with a colourful demo from the Ri team!
Continue to enjoy the night with demonstrations and activities that cover a multitude of science topics, presented by Sarah Cosgriff, Kate Holmes and Hana Ayoob, and enjoy a drink or two at the bar.
