About this Event
Miami-Dade County has the largest number of condominiums in Florida, making it ground zero for a financial crisis involving new safety laws. Owners face rising condo fees, special assessments, and starting in 2025, the requirement to fund reserves. Costs have forced many to make tough financial decisions and contemplate moving out of the community. As many residents face being priced out of paradise, the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald bring you a panel of leading real estate experts and politicians to discuss hurdles and solutions. WLRN's Tom Hudson will moderate a 45-minute discussion and audience Q & A. VIP ticketholders will have direct access to panelists for a 30-minute meet and greet after the event including Tom Hudson, Vicki Lopez, Ned Murray, Peter Zalewski, as well as Alex R. Ballina, director of Public Housing and Community Development.
Expert Panel:
Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County Mayor
Vicki Lopez, State Representative, R-Miami
Ned Murray, associate director of the Florida International University Jorge M. Perez Metropolitan Center
Peter Zalewski, founder of real estate consulting firm Condo Vultures
MODERATOR Tom Hudson, WLRN's Senior Economics Editor and Special Correspondent
