Background on Preston Frank:
Preston is one of the last of the older Creole style of Zydeco accordion players and is an important force in preserving traditional Creole French music. Zydeco and Creole music in Louisiana can be traced via the family trees that it down from generation to generation. Multiple generations of ground-breaking musicians went into developing this music and continue to push its boundaries today. In Louisiana, the Frank family is one of the best-known Creole Zydeco music families, and rightly so, with Preston as the living Patriarch and father of Keith Frank, one of the most popular young Zydeco artists of today in Louisiana.
As Dirk Powell puts it:
“When you hear Preston Frank singing “I was born in the country” in the song “Creole Man” you sense instantly that he embodies the best of what that statement means – an openness and generosity of spirit, an inseparable bond with his culture, a mix of humility and expressiveness that makes his music sparkle. His driving accordion licks grab you. His vocals growl. His rhythms get your blood pumping.”
Background on Kevin Wimmer:
Today, Kevin plays fiddle with one of the most renowned Cajun bands in all the land, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys. As Steve puts it, “Kevin is one of the finest fiddlers around. Period.” Kevin is originally from NYC a part of great musical family. He began his musical training at age four with his Mother, a respected violinist who is on the Juilliard School of Music faculty. Ever since meeting Dewey Balfa 31 years ago, Cajun fiddle has been Kevin’s focus, though he also enjoys playing jazz, Western swing, & old-time. Kevin has toured four continents and countless cities with Balfa Toujours, the Red Stick Ramblers, Racines, Ray Abshire, Ann Savoy and her Sleepless Nights, Danny Poullard and the California Cajun Orchestra, Preston Frank and the Frank Family Band, and more.
