Title: Preserving Paradise with Living Shorelines

Description:

Jupiter has been coined by many as ‘Paradise’, but how do we help keep it this way? The waterways are intertwined with Jupiter’s beauty and with the increased appreciation of the beautiful place we live. There is also an increased need to protect the natural habitat of our coastal environments. A Living Shoreline is a sustainable alternative to traditional hardened seawalls and is a sustainable approach to protecting, preserving, and restoring Jupiter’s Shoreline. The Jupiter Inlet District (JID) partnered with Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area to successfully create a living shoreline along their southern shore and is now working to educate the public on its many benefits. Join us for an overview to learn more about the work conducted by JID to protect and preserve the important waterways of the Loxahatchee River and Jupiter Inlet!

Speaker: Cami Cunningham

Jupiter Inlet District

Assistant Director

Biography:

Cami is a Jupiter local who grew up in the outdoors, volunteering at Busch Wildlife and spent the majority of her time riding and caring for horses. Cami was a part of the Environmental Academy, graduating from Jupiter High School.

She continued riding competitively in college, where she received a Business Administration from St. Andrews University. From there, Cami spent 6 years working at an equine veterinary hospital in the diagnostic imaging department.

Cami joined the Jupiter Inlet District in 2022.

The Jupiter Inlet District was established in 1921 by the Florida State Legislature to maintain the inlet and a navigable channel from the Loxahatchee River to the Atlantic Ocean, and to preserve and protect these important waterways and natural resources.
