Join the Dunbar Historic Neighborhood Association (DHNA) and community members as we attend the City of Little Rock Planning Commission meeting to oppose the developers who demolished the historic property at 1516 Ringo Street.
oin the Dunbar Historic Neighborhood Association (DHNA) and community members as we attend the City of Little Rock Planning Commission meeting to demand justice for the demolition of the historic property at 1516 Ringo Street.
This property, a cornerstone of our history, was:
A Charles Thompson home, crafted by the renowned architect.
The last residence of Tuskegee Airmen Pilot Trainer Milton Crenshaw.
A Bush home, tied to John E. Bush, founder of the Mosaic Templars of America.
Despite its placement on the National Register of Historic Places, the property was demolished, erasing a piece of the first Black community in Little Rock. The demolition disregarded its significance, both as a testament to African-American excellence and as a part of American history.
We are united in demanding that the developer restore a historically accurate facade that complements the other historic homes on this block. This area, home to the Bush family in the early 1900s, stands as a testament to our community's enduring legacy. To preserve it is to honor not only Black history but also our collective American story.
Who Should Attend:
Dunbar community members
Dunbar High School and Middle School alumni
Supporters of the Dunbar Historic District
Alumni and students of Philander Smith University and Arkansas Baptist College
Advocates for historic preservation
Residents of historic districts across Little Rock
Why It Matters:
The Dunbar Historic District is a cornerstone of Little Rock’s history—a vibrant reminder of African-American excellence, perseverance, and unity. Standing together, we can ensure that the story of this historic community is not erased but celebrated for generations to come.
Be There. Speak Up. Stand up. Protect Our Legacy.
