Love Isn’t Instinct. It’s a Skill.
Book Launch & Conversation for PrePairing for Love: The Relationship Education We Were Never Given

Love is political.

Love is personal.

Love is learned.

We’re often told that love should be enough. That good intentions should carry us through. But healthy, fulfilling relationships require far more than instinct and hope. They require self-awareness, intentional effort, and skills we are rarely taught before the stakes are high—before choices become life-altering.

So why aren’t we formally preparing for love at all?

In this book launch conversation, licensed therapist and author Weena Wise explores what many of us sense but struggle to articulate: that love is not a level playing field. Our relationships are shaped by culture, history, trauma, and early experiences that quietly influence our access to romantic love, how safe love feels, how commitment is perceived, and how conflict is navigated. Wise argues that if we’re only learning how to do relationships once they’re breaking—or once we’re standing at the altar—we’re starting far too late.

Weena Wise is a licensed marriage and family therapist, certified professional coach, clinical writer, and public speaker with over 20 years of experience helping individuals and couples build healthier, more sustainable relationships.

She is the founder of Covenant Therapy Group, a mental health practice serving individuals, couples, and families throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Over the course of her career, Wise has conducted more than 20,000 clinical sessions, giving her a deep, grounded understanding of the patterns that shape modern love—and the skills most people were never taught before the stakes were high.

Her work has been featured in more than 40 major media outlets, including NBC News, USA Today, Prevention, MindBodyGreen, Essence, SELF, and HuffPost. Known for translating complex emotional and relational dynamics into clear, accessible language, Wise brings a structured, compassionate approach to preparing people for healthy love—and helping repair relationships that feel stuck, strained, or broken.
