This set of courses is all about getting down to the basics of preparedness medicine or "Prep Med" without any unnecessary fluff. Join us for a hands-on experience where you'll learn practical skills that could save a life. Real knowledge that you can rely on in an emergency. LEVEL I: BASIC PREP MED (4 hours Saturday morning)
This course is the foundation of preparedness medicine and is recommended for everyone who wants to be prepared to stabilize a victim until help arrives within an hour or two.
Level I is a pre-requisite to Level II.
Topics include rapid patient assessment for life-threatening emergencies, controlling severe bleeding, treating for shock, and managing an airway. Focus of this course is on individual first aid and assisting another individual. Course completers will receive a reference book, CPR barrier, Stop the Bleed Certificate, and Adult/Child/Infant CPR with AED certificate good for 2 years.
ADD-ON LEVEL II: INTERMEDIATE PREP MED (4 hours Saturday afternoon)
This course is the next step of preparedness medicine and addresses the management of life-threatening emergencies when additional help is hours away. It is recommended for survivalists, preppers, hunters, hikers, boaters, and anyone else who does not have immediate access to emergency services.
Level II is a pre-requisite to Level III.
Topics include intermediate patient assessment, common medical problems and treatments, over the counter medications, splinting, general wound management, using the equipment included in the Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) and additional supplies included with the course.
Focus of this course is on individual first aid and assisting one or two other individuals. Course completers will receive a First Aid Certificate good for 2 years in addition to other items from the Basic level.
ADD-ON LEVEL III: ADVANCED PREP MED (8 hours all day Sunday)
This course is the advanced level of preparedness medicine and addresses the management of medical emergencies when additional help is not available, and is recommended for people who want to be ready for anything, at any time, for a long time.
Topics include advanced patient assessment, advanced medical problems, infectious disease, water treatment, tourniquet conversion, and advanced wound management, such as sutures (participants must bring a suture practice kit such as this one: https://amzn.to/4iEvxmZ )
Focus of this course is on advanced medical care, planning for long-term preparedness medicine, stocking a long-term preparedness med kit, improvising medical supplies, and caring for a small group of individuals and long-term medical issues. Course completers will receive Advanced Preparedness Medicine certificate in addition to the certificates from Level I and from Level II.
About Your Lead Instructor: Seth Craig is a paramedic and Associate in Wildeness Medicine. He serves as a paramedic in rural areas in addition to running the EMS Program at a College. He teaches everything from CPR, Basic First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, to EMTs and Paramedics. In addition, Seth was an extra in an episode of The Walking Dead.
