About the Artist
Allison Janae Hamilton is an artist and filmmaker whose work is known for its evocative imagery, mythic storytelling, and immersive engagement with the natural world. Influenced by her upbringing in the rural American South—born in Kentucky, raised in Florida, and connected to her family’s farm in western Tennessee—Hamilton’s work examines how landscape shapes cultural memory and the mythology of “Americana.”
Her films and installations have been presented at major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum, Studio Museum in Harlem, and Storm King Art Center. Her film Wacissa was recently acquired by the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Hamilton is a recipient of the Creative Capital Award and the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Grant, and her screenplay Floridaland was selected for the Sundance Institute Feature Film Program Development Track as part of the 2026 Sundance Screenwriters Intensive.
