CELEBRATING THE WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
*>*> On the 3rd Monday of the month (instead of the 2nd) to coincide with the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. <*<*
The theme chosen for this year’s Week of Prayer is “There is one body, and one spirit, just as you are called to the one hope of your calling.” (Ephesians 4:4) The theme comes from the Christians of Armenia: Oriental Orthodox, Catholic and Evangelical. Study of the style and tone of Ephesians helps us understand that while this letter is addressed to the Church at Ephesus in Asia Minor, it is actually an example of Paul’s attempt to reach a much wider audience, with hymns, prayers and litanies of faith that would be read in all the churches. This “encyclical” intention emphasizes catholicity as well as the unity of the Church. This universality and unity are offered as gifts from the Holy Spirit to enable mission and evangelization.
Gathered in the presence of Christ, in this ecumenical Christian prayer we call the Prayer of Peace in the spirit of Taizé, we sing uncomplicated songs, allowing the mystery of God to become tangible through the beauty of simplicity. This contemplative monthly prayer features music, scripture, candlelight, prayers for the world and an extended period of silence for meditation. | prayerofpeacegr.org

+++ Look for St. Mary Church's parking lot at 420 Second St. NW, near downtown Grand Rapids with easy access to both the US-131 and I-196 expressways. The church is one block north of Bridge St., in the block of Broadway, Second, Turner and First Streets. Parking is available in the lot on Second Street and on the streets immediately surrounding the church in the block of Broadway, Second, Turner and First Streets NW. Note that the church has enlisted the help of AirGarage to help manage public parking in the lot. This does *NOT* apply to times when the church is hosting an event, so you will not need to pay for parking between 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm on the night we have the Prayer of Peace. Parking on the streets around the church remains free after 5:00 pm.
