About
“Despite a transcendently silly story line and a lot more froufrou touches than the traffic will bear, it’s liable to work as escapism for anyone who thinks Little Women has too much grit…Based on Alice Hoffman’s fanciful novel and directed with go-for-broke prettiness by Griffin Dunne, Practical Magic is nothing but a guilty pleasure.” — Janet Maslin, The New York Times.
SYNOPSIS
Initially overlooked upon its release, Griffin Dunne’s enchanting adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s bestselling novel has since become a beloved Halloween cult classic. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman star as Sally and Gillian Owens, sisters descended from a long line of witches whose family is bound by a centuries-old curse that dooms the men they love. Blending romance, supernatural fantasy, comedy, and just a touch of spooky atmosphere, Practical Magic casts an irresistible spell through its celebration of sisterhood, found family, and feminine resilience, buoyed by the effortless chemistry of its cast, an unforgettable soundtrack, and one of cinema’s coziest autumnal settings. Few films evoke the warmth, magic, and melancholy of the Halloween season quite so enchantingly.
