We begin the evening with a private tour of the Old Stone Bank (1896) on South Main Street, designed by the local architectural firm Stone, Carpenter & Willson and now a private residence. Hear from the project architect at LLB Architects about the renovation of the historic interior and the roof, which created a roofdeck with expansive views of the city. Prior to its residential conversion, the Bank was owned by Brown University from 1995 to 2009; it was acquired to house the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology’s collection before the University decided to relocate the collection to the Jewelry District.

The second part of this tour moves across the river to the Beatrice Hotel (1888), which was originally the National Exchange Bank Building and was also designed by the local firm Stone, Carpenter & Willson. In 2022, Paolino Properties and ZDS Architecture & Interiors teamed up to adapt the historic building into a boutique hotel, with a ground-floor restaurant and Providence’s only rooftop club. The Beatrice tour will be led by Eric Schall (AIA, NCARB, LEED), Associate Principal at ZDS Architecture and by Stephen Hourahan, Director of Memberships and Sales at Bellini, who will share his memories of working in this building in the 1980s when it was the home of Briggs Ltd., the two-generation men’s clothing store run then by Briggs Doherty, Jr. The tour includes a glimpse into a few hotel rooms and concludes on the Bellini rooftop terrace where guests can purchase a drink at the bar and enjoy views of the city.
