PPS's Blackstone Boulevard House Tour

Join Providence Preservation Society on Saturday, June 27 for tours of four spectacular estates on Blackstone Boulevard. Hear from PPS staff about each home's history and from the homeowners or their designers about renovation and modernization projects completed, underway or planned. The walk covers 0.5 miles and we will stop for about 25 minutes at each home along the way for a guided tour of each home's ground floor and garden. All of the homes are located in two adjoining National Register Historic Districts, which together contain about 600 buildings dating mainly from the 1910s to 1940s, when this part of the East Side was evolving from a streetcar suburb into an integrated part of the city. Two of the homes were designed by the architect-builder Marshall B. Martin in the 1920s and two were renovated/designed by the design-build firm Hill & Harbor in 2025. The tour begins with a brief history of the ecology, development, and architecture of the Blackstone Boulevard historic corridor.

Homes include the Beresford-Nicholson House (1910/1925, 288 Blackstone Boulevard), the Isaac and Susan Rose House (1929, 514 Blackstone Boulevard), the Jerome Richmond and Elinor Fales House (1928, 436 Blackstone Boulevard), and the Hill & Harbor House (2026, 310 Blackstone Boulevard).

This tour raises funds for PPS's year-round work in research, education, advocacy, and historic trades training. If you are not a PPS member, please consider joining us this year (first-year memberships start at $35).

Tour meeting point: Blackstone Boulevard footpath between Magellan Street and Mount Avenue at the two benches along the path, across from 248 Blackstone Boulevard. Please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to put disposable booties on at some of the homes (these will be provided by PPS).
