Pound House Farmstead Museum

Transport yourself into 19th century pioneer life with a visit to the oldest surviving structure from the original Dripping Springs settlement. The Pound House Farmstead has long been at the heart of Dripping Springs’ cultural heritage, first as the log cabin home of Dr. Joseph and Sarah Pound, and since 2003 as a history museum. The building is included in the National Register of Historic Places and was recorded as a Texas State Historic Landmark in 1965.

Nestled on five oak-filled acres, the Pound House Farmstead offers an immersive glimpse into our community’s inception. The site includes a dog-trot-style home, smokehouse, windmill with cistern, barn, outhouse, and gardens. The restored 1854 family residence showcases original furnishings and heirlooms. As one of the town’s founding families, the Pounds’ home and land were a hub for the developing community and gave Dripping Springs its first school house, doctor’s office and site for the settlers’ first church services. Pound descendants lived in the house until 1983.

The Pound family tradition of hospitality continues today. Join us for a docent-led tour of the museum, pack a picnic and dine under the oaks, or explore at your own pace.

The Pound House Farmstead grounds and museum are open Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm during the Dripping Springs Farmers Market, and Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The farmstead is maintained by the Friends of the Pound House Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization. The site is supported entirely by grants and donations, which are tax-deductible. Contributions from the community keep Dripping Springs history alive for the enjoyment and benefit of current and future generations.
