Long before it became a gathering place for craft beer and conversation, this striking 1893 structure was tied to the influential Sheafer family—key figures in the rise of Pottsville’s coal and industrial era. Built during a time of immense wealth and expansion, the home stood as a reflection of power, ambition, and legacy in the Coal Region.
By the mid-20th century, the building took on a new life as a YWCA, serving generations of the community through dance, gymnastics, and social programs. Decades of laughter, movement, and shared experience filled its halls—yet some believe not all who passed through ever truly left.
Now, as Black Rock Brewing Company, the building blends past and present… but what lingers beneath the surface?
Your hosts for the evening, Leah McKain and Amy Dee, will guide guests through an immersive paranormal investigation of this historic location. The night begins with an introduction to the building’s layered history and the equipment you’ll be using. You’ll learn the fundamentals of paranormal investigation before breaking into smaller groups.
Each group will rotate through different areas of the building for hands-on investigations. Using professional equipment, you’ll attempt to make contact, document activity, and explore spaces in a way few ever experience after dark.
This is your chance to step inside a piece of Pottsville’s past—and uncover what may still remain.
