Pottery Handbuilding: Beyond the Basics

Explore fundamental handbuilding techniques while making functional and decorative pottery pieces. This project-based class will explore coil and slab-built pottery along with various texture and surface design techniques. A great class for more seasoned potters looking to expand their handbuilding skills. Previous clay experience recommended.

Class will meet on 6/15, 6/22, 6/29, 7/6, 7/13 and 7/27 (no class on 7/20).

Join MakerSpace instructor, Kelly Long, for this 6-week class as she guides you through the step-by-step process of making different pottery forms and exploring new techniques. One 25 lb bag of clay and firing fees for up to 6 pieces is included in class fee.

Refund Policy:

• Transfers to another class follow the same refund rules as your original date.
• 14+ days before the first class: Full refund.
• 7–13 days before the first class: Refund minus a 50% administrative fee.
• Fewer than 7 days before the first class: No refunds.
• Seat transfer: If you find a replacement who pays for and takes your seat before the first class begins, you are eligible for a full refund.

Class may be canceled due to low enrollment in which case a full refund will be issued.
Cancellation Policy:

MakerSpace reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment. If a class is canceled by MakerSpace, fees are 100% refundable.

About the Instructor
Kelly Long
Kelly has been making pottery for the past 15 years. Her work is handbuilt and glazed using terra sigillata with a patina finish to enhance the textures she stamps into her clay. Kelly has taught handbuilding classes at Clayworks and throughout the Charlotte community. As much as she enjoys making pottery, she loves teaching it even more. It makes her feel like a proud mom whenever her students create something they are excited about.
