About this Event
WHY GO?
This hike brings together some of Potsdam’s most beautiful landscapes, architecture and memorable experiences.
The route links a series of historic parks, each with its own character. From the rolling scenery of Park Babelsberg to the lakeside setting of Neuer Garten. Along the way, there’s a strong sense of history, from Prussian palaces to the Cold War story of the Glienicker Brücke.
A real highlight of the day is the alpaca walk. Spending time with these calm, good-natured animals adds a slower, more playful rhythm to the day and is sure to be a fond memory.
We also pause at the lakeside Brauerei Meierei im Neuen Garten, a former dairy turned brewery. With its traditional character, delicious house-brewed beers, and a beer garden overlooking the Jungfernsee, it’s an ideal place to relax and take it all in.
This day-trip is a chance to slow down and enjoy the company of some gentle alpacas as part of a varied, social day in the fresh outdoors with a group of curious explorers.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS?
Park Babelsberg: A UNESCO-listed landscape park with rolling hills, winding paths, and views over the Havel. Along the way, we pass the striking Flatowturm, one of the park’s best viewpoints, the historic Gerichtslaube, and the fairytale-style Schloss Babelsberg, once a summer residence for Prussian royalty.
Wartmanns Café: A relaxed, picturesque café near the Teltow Canal, ideal for a mid-hike break. With BBQ food, drinks, homemade cakes, and a range of ice cream flavours, it’s an easy place to pause and recharge.
Alpaca Walk: A unique 1.5-hour walk through parkland alongside calm alpacas. Set around the historic hunting grounds near Jagdschloss Glienicke and Glienicker Park, it’s a slower-paced, standout addition to the day.
Glienicker Brücke (Bridge of Spies): A simple-looking bridge with a fascinating past. During the Cold War, it was used for high-profile exchanges between East and West — earning its nickname “Bridge of Spies”.
Brauerei Meierei im Neuen Garten: A lakeside brewery on the Jungfernsee with a spacious beer garden and wide views across the water. One of Potsdam’s most scenic spots to sit and enjoy a freshly brewed beer.
Neuer Garten: A more formal royal park set along the lakeshore, with open lawns, tree-lined paths, and elegant architecture. We pass Cecilienhof Palace, where the Potsdam Conference shaped post-war Europe, and the neoclassical Marmorpalais, a lakeside residence built for Prussian kings — all set within peaceful surroundings.
