The Potomac Playmakers is proud to announce auditions for the second show of the 2025-2026 Season, the classic Joseph Kesselring comedy “Arsenic and Old Lace”! Drama critic Mortimer Brewster’s engagement announcement is upended when he discovers a corpse in his elderly aunts’ window seat. Mortimer rushes to tell Aunt Abby and Aunt Martha before they stumble upon the body themselves, only to learn that the two old women aren’t just aware of the dead man in their parlor, they killed him! Between his aunts’ penchant for poisoning wine, a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, and another brother using plastic surgery to hide from the police—not to mention Mortimer’s own hesitancy about marriage—it’ll be a miracle if Mortimer makes it to his wedding. Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic black comedy about the only thing more deadly than poison: family.
Directed by Sarah Trent with kind permission of Dramatists Play Service, Inc., auditions for Second Samuel will be held on September 8 and September 9, 2025 at The Potomac Playmakers Performing Arts Center, located at 17303 W. Washington Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740. Auditions start at 7:00 p.m. and will consist of cold readings from the script. The play includes eleven male and three female roles ranging in ages from mid-20’s and up. The show will run November 7-9 and November 14-16, 2025.
